How it works
The system works by radiating ultrasonic beams covering the area behind the vehicle. The beams are reflected by obstructions behind the vehicle, and re-enter the sensors. The reflected beam information is processed to calculate the distance of the obstruction.
As with the other systems the Nikkai unit is activated when reverse gear is engaged. As the vehicle is reversed. When the vehicle is less than 1.5 metres from the obstruction the audible alert will emit intermittent bleeps. As the vehicle gets closer to the obstruction the display indicates the reduction in distance and the frequency of the bleeps increases. At 45 centimetres from the obstruction the bleeps become a continuous solid tone.

The Nikkai 4A systems can also be attached to the front of a vehicle for all-round protection. In this instance the power lead needs to be wired into the fuse box rather than the reversing light so that power is always on when the car is in ignition. We suggest the fuse for the car stereo or interior lights. There is a volume on/off switch on the side of the buzzer. It's preferable to have this switched to "off" when driving because otherwise you will get an audio alert every time you pull up close to someone in traffic as the unit is always on.

Maintenance
No routine maintenance or adjustment is required. Dirt, frost or snow accumulated on the sensors may cause the system to activate incorrectly. Clean carefully with a soft cloth. Do not use chemicals or spirits. Applying hot water in frozen conditions may damage the sensors. The sensors can be washed carefully with warm soapy water.
